Han Kang was born in 1970 in South Korea. In 1993 she made her literary debut as a poet and was first published as a novelist in 1994. Her third novel The Vegetarian won the International Booker Prize in 2016. Her latest novel We Do Not Part was awarded the Medicis Prize in 2023. In 2024 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature ‘for her intense, poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life’. Her most recent book is Light and Thread.
