Elaine Castillo was born and raised in the Bay Area. Her debut novel, America Is Not the Heart, was published to critical acclaim in both the US and UK and was nominated for several awards. In 2022, Castillo published a collection of essays, How To Read Now. Moderation is her second novel. She lives in California.
