Workshop 1: Creating Place and Atmosphere with Priscilla Morris
Wednesday 11 June | 12.15 – 1:15 pm
Everything starts with place. Join Priscilla Morris for a fun, memorable workshop that will explore how subject, theme, plot, character, voice and structure can all spring from place. Rather than being mere window-dressing or backdrop, Priscilla will persuade you that place is primordial. She’ll discuss how place was fundamental to the writing of her debut novel, Black Butterflies, and look at its organising, generative role in other works such as Noreen Masud’s A Flat Place, shortlisted for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction. You’ll learn how to use the senses, memory, emotion, imagination and research to evoke a strong sense of place and atmosphere in your own writing.
This is a practical workshop, so please bring something to write on.
