Each week until the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction winner’s announcement on June 7th, we’ll be giving you an insight into the workspaces of our brilliant 2017 shortlisted authors. This week, Ayobami Adebayo, shortlisted for her debut Stay With Me, takes us on a tour of her writing desk, which is currently set up in her bedroom, and all of the objects she draws inspiration from while working.
Where do you write?
I write at my desk, which at the moment is set up in my bedroom.
What do you have on your desk?
My reading glasses, headphones, my laptop, a notebook to scribble in, a cup of tea and paperbacks to dip in and out of while I’m working.
Which is the most inspiring object in your workspace?
I listen to a lot of music when I’m writing, I’d say the headphones channel inspiration.
What can you see from your window?
My desk is currently set in front of a blank wall and positioned so that I have to leave the desk before I can look out through the window. This is because I find views very distracting. If I do look out, I can see the lawn.
